About David Horne


David Horne has over 20 years experience as a sought after creative catwalk make-up artist/designer specialising in directional make-up, dealing with all areas of fashion, trend and editorial beauty make-up.

David grew up in a very creative household; his mother was a seamstress and painter. He has always been fascinated in cultures and in awe of anyone who pushed boundaries. Embracing subcultures from a young age by getting into the fetish and alternative scene, David attended themed parties which encouraged people to dress up and release their alter ego for the night. It was inevitable this creativity was to pave way for a hugely successful career in makeup artistry.

He has worked with some of the best in the industry, starting life off assisting the likes of Alex Box, Sharon Dowsett and Val Garland, working on high profile catwalk shows in fashion capitals London, Paris and New York on Anna Sui, Alexander McQueen, Calvin Klein, Julien Macdonald and Balenciaga. Celebrity clients have included seventies model Pat Cleveland, British actress Anna Friel, Supermodels Erin O Connor, Eva Herzigova Sophie Dahl, Veruschkand  and Karolina Kurkova amongst others.
Alongside his varied Professional freelance Make-up artistry work, David enjoyed an extensive and varied career with cult beauty brand MAC for a decade working in many managerial roles such as Artist Training & Development, Artist Relations and PRO Business Manager.

He went on to further update the Fashion curriculum at the London College of Fashion Fda Course and held the position of Senior Lecturer and Fda Course Pathway Leader where he attained a Distinction Award for PgCert Teaching Art & Design.


A position as Director of Education at the Jemma Kidd Make Up School soon followed, whilst teaching independently. An advocator of safe beauty practices alongside continuous education and inspiration, the perfect platform to foster confidence within Professional Make up Art.


Today, David oversees two key areas at cult British beauty brand Illamasqua, one is Director of New Product Development and other is Director of SOMUA which is Illamasqua’s School of makeup art, helping people master a diverse array of professional techniques via a range of courses designed to suit all skill levels.
