Interview with Dee….

How did you get into make up?

I studied make up & design at Westminster in 1996. Then i was lucky enough to get my first break in tv working on a teen comedy.

What have been your best moments so far?

Always working with great teams of talented and inspiring individuals and feel the satisfaction of making your vision a reality.

What personality traits make a good artist?

Calmness and positivity, diversity, attention to detail and above all passion.

Why did you start teaching?

Time to give something back. I’ ve always enjoyed having trainees working with me and seeing them develop their confidence and skills. But on a busy set you don’t always have the time to give 100%.

Give us a typical ‘day in the life of…’ a make up artist

Very very varied … one day you are in a studio ….the next you are in a freezing location .. Meetings with photographers, directors, producers…. Researching and creating looks …. Using your creativity to make your artist look and feel good.

What are your 3 favourite products?

There are so many! At the moment Clinique Quick Blush, Makeup for Ever waterproof eyebrow, Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner.

What is your top beauty tip?

Drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated.

Any skin care tips?

We all have very different skin types, so it’s important to find the right tip for you. Make sure you clean your skin properly and moisturizer is the key to soft supple skin. Apply when the skin is slightly damp as the water locks in moisture.

What is your advice to budding make up artists?

The best training after your course is assisting an established make up artist.
