Yannick Zurcher is a Swiss make up artist and a veteran of the beauty industry.
Yannick began his makeup artistry studies in Swizerland. He then moved to London, working at Dior as a top make up artist while also studying at the London College of Fashion where he mastered theatrical and special effect make up.
After two years, he became international make up artist for Nars travelling in countries such as Japan, Australia, France, Germany, Turkey, Spain and working on various runway shows. He also trained teams of make up artists and devised make up design for stage.
Yannick’ s breadth of cosmetics experience also extends into the Fashion arena, where he has worked for prestigious runway show such as Dior, Topshop, Selfridges, Arrogant Cat, Jeager, Toni&Guy, Charlie le Mindu and the Designer Wedding Show.
He has also worked for various tv shows including Make me a Supermodel (with top model Rachel Hunter), Got to Dance, X Factor and several music videos.
His celebrity clients include Alexis Jordan, Connie Fisher, Immodesty Blaze, Valerie Morris, Freema Agyeman.
As an artist, Yannick acts as a liaison between high fashion and the consumer world. His immense talent and experience enables him to understand and exemplify his technique and understanding of the make up industry.
Interview with Yannick…..
How did you get into make up?
I have friends who are make up artists, so I have always been fascinated by the art. I decided to take a 15 day basic course and then learnt my trade assisting artists and working.
What have been your best moments so far?
Every time I do a make up and feel, “I love that look” or when you can see that the person’s reaction when you make them look gorgeous.
What personality traits make a good artist?
To have fun in what you do and live for it… Never think you know everything because you never stop learning.
Why did you start teaching?
I felt ready to share what I have learnt over the past 7 years. It’s very rewarding to see what you can bring to people and how you change their lives.
Give us a typical ‘day in the life of…’ a make up artist
It’s always very different but it generally starts the day before, organizing your kit and having an idea of the looks you will do, especially for shoots. One day you can be in a studio, or on a tv set, backstage on a fashion show, or making up a bride in a gorgeous hotel in a beautiful countryside location.
What are your 3 favourite products?
Nars multiple sticks, Armani “Designer” foundation, Dior skin flash.
What is your top beauty tip?
Sleep enough, eat good food, drink a lot of water, don’t smoke.
Any skin care tips?
You don’t have to buy the most expensive products but do go for products which are natural and fragrance free. Make sure you always remove your make up before bed and moisturize morning and night. Exfoliate at least once a week and use a deep moisturizing mask if you have dry skin. It is important you get the right skincare for your skin type and don’t over use your products.
What is your advice to budding make up artists?
Practice your artistry and don’t be afraid to take it all off and start again if you don’t like it.Every opportunity you get to assist an established working artist, take it!
